Paul Coughlin, the founder of The Protectors- an organisation that promotes faith-based solutions to bullying, recently wrote about how to stop the cycle of bullying and this provided useful background information for the leaders as they led the discussion on Sunday and talked through this issue of bullying with the kids. The article mentioned that most bullying is verbal, not physical, and the kids at Kidz Church also mentioned this. The article highlighted the need to help our children learn how to not respond with a public display of pain or anguish, and if they do, to provide quick and effective verbal comebacks that defend their own dignity and at the same time do not escalate the problem. Another popular form of bullying is excluding and isolating other kids. The article was certainly an informative overview of bullying and you might like to check out this article yourself...
The Protectors also produce a 6-lesson curriculum designed for students K-12. Their information states that the program 'debunks many of the life-stealing myths about bullying and gives kids the insight and inspiration they need to transform from passive bystanders to courageous “Alongside Standers.” Ideal for character development and the cultivation of courage, the virtue that bolsters all other virtues and the virtue that stops some people from leaving the faith altogether.'
