Organising your day- made easy

We may all have 1440 minutes every day, but somehow or other there just never seems enough time to complete all that we'd hoped to accomplish.
If you find it hard to organise your day or complete weekly tasks, then the productivity blog Day-Timer might be helpful. Day-Timer suggests a simple process:
  • Spend 5 minutes each day re-writing a new daily to-do list.
  • Start with 3-5 priority tasks you know you can accomplish today.
  • Evaluate which tasks must be done and others you'd like to accomplish
  • Park the tasks you don't see yourself doing today on a holding list for another day.

Now.. if you need some help with writing up your 'To-do List', you may choose to print your own or purchase some professionally printed versions. Many are available but you might like to check out some of the suggestions below. Or, you may wish to use an online family planner/calendar.  Cozi is an excellent online solution, and it's free!  Cozi is a FREE online organizer and mobile app that helps you manage the family schedule, organize shopping lists and to do lists, and capture favorite memories—all in one place.

Join Sesame Street's Elmo, Abby and Telly as they set out on a new and exciting learning adventure. The friends become trapped inside the video game world of A.B.C-more. They must defeat different alphabet challenges to escape, each one a spoof of a popular video game such as Mario Bros and Angry Birds that teach letter recognition and sounds in a fun and entertaining way.

Can Elmo munch through a maze, finding objects with the same initial sounds? What happens when the friends encounter some letters from 'Angry Words'?

There's more challenging fun as the friends play seven different ABC games. Check out the YouTube clip below. Find the DVD here...

The benefit of honey for coughs

15/8/2012

So... your grandmother really did know best. How often did she say that a teaspoon of honey before going to bed would ease a child's cough and help them sleep soundly. Research now shows that children aged between 1 and 5 suffering a throat infection coughed less and slept better after taking 10gm honey before bed.

The thinking is that sweet substances of any kind help soothe the back of the throat and break up mucus in the airways. Honey is also known to have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties making it a better alternative to cough syrups. (Pediatrics Journal)

Take note: Honey should not be given to children under 12 months because in rare cases it can cause infantile botulism.

We all have the best of intentions and carefully purchase an attractive baby book to record our new baby's photos, milestones and important mementos. But life, especially with a new little one, is jam-packed with time-consuming routines, unexpected delays and mounting fatigue. It's really difficult to find the time to journal these events, no matter how special.
TinyBeans makes it easy and simple to take a photo that is automatically uploaded to your child's photo journal. Your journal is private by default, but you can invite your family and friends to view your expanding record of the growth and development of your children. Reminders can be configured  and both parents can upload photos to the same journal.
Start your precious keepsake now!

Out-sourcing parenting

13/8/2012

When I found I was pregnant with our first child, despite all my teacher training, I felt thoroughly inadequate and read everything I could lay my hands on about parenting. Today, bookstores stock a plethora of parenting reference materials and perhaps this intimidating array of resources has contributed to the current parenting outsourcing trend. Or perhaps, as other sources suggest, parents are just too busy, or too lazy, to raise  their own kids. Whatever the reasons, families now look to experts  to:
  • provide potty training
  • establishing sleep patterns for baby
  • baby-proofing the home
  • solving picky eating problems
  • teaching kids how to a ride bike
  • planning their kid's birthday party
  • teaching their children basic manners and social skills
  • picking the perfect baby name (can you believe it?)
So... how competently do you handle your numerous parenting tasks? Are you considering calling in the experts and, are they really 'the experts'?
